Terms of service

Last updated 28 October 2026

These are the terms for using Pharos. By creating an account, installing the guide on a website, or using the browser extension, you agree to them. They are written to be read.

What Pharos is

Pharos gives a website a guide that answers where things are and points at the exact button (“the guide”), and gives anyone a browser extension that does the same on websites that have not installed anything (“the extension”). Together, “the service”. Pharos only points. It never presses anything for you.

Your account

  • You must be at least 16 and able to enter a contract. Give a real email address and keep your password safe; what happens under your account is your responsibility.
  • Tell us at hello@localhost if you think someone else has got into your account.

Adding websites

  • Add only websites you own or are allowed to add. Pharos reads the public pages of the websites you add, and follows their robots.txt, so it can build the guide's knowledge. You allow us to read, store and use those pages for your guide.
  • You are responsible for what is on your website, and for telling your visitors that a guide runs on it and how their questions are handled (our privacy policy describes what we do).

Using the service properly

Do not:

  • use it to break the law, to harm or deceive anyone, or to collect people's data without their knowledge;
  • try to read, copy or disrupt what you have no right to, including other customers' data, our systems, or someone's website through our crawler;
  • get around limits, plans or rate limits, or resell the service without our written agreement;
  • use the extension's walkthroughs in a way that is automated at a scale that goes beyond what a person would do.

If you do, we may limit or suspend what you are doing, and where we can we will tell you why first.

AI answers can be wrong

The guide and the extension use AI models. They answer only from the pages they are given and say when they are not sure, but they can still be wrong or out of date. Treat an answer as a pointer, not as advice. Check anything that matters, especially for money, health, legal or safety decisions.

Plans, payment and renewal

  • Paid plans are shown with their price, in US dollars, on our website. A plan renews automatically each month or year until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your billing page; it then ends at the close of the period you have paid for.
  • Paddle or Bachs.io sells you the plan as the merchant of record, takes payment and charges any sales tax or VAT that applies. Their terms apply to the purchase, alongside these.
  • If a payment fails we keep your plan for a short grace period while it is retried, then your account returns to the Free plan. Your sites are paused, not deleted, if they exceed what Free allows.
  • We may change prices or plans. A change never affects a period you have already paid for, and we will tell you before it affects your next renewal.
  • Refunds are covered in our refund policy.

The extension

The extension has a free daily allowance and optional paid tiers with higher daily limits. It reads the page you press its icon on, as described in the privacy policy. Walkthroughs are limited per day and per walkthrough, to keep the service fair. New features may be added to particular tiers.

Our work and yours

Pharos, its software, name, logo and the character Pharo belong to us. We give you a right to use the service for as long as you follow these terms. Your website, its content and your settings remain yours. Feedback you give us we may use without obligation.

Availability and changes

We work to keep the service running, but we do not promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change or remove features, and will give notice when a change takes away something you rely on.

Ending things

You can stop using Pharos and delete your account whenever you like, by writing to hello@localhost. We may suspend or end an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or others at risk. When an account ends, we delete its data as described in the privacy policy.

Our responsibility

The service is provided “as is”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profit or lost data, and our total liability for anything arising from the service is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits what the law does not let us limit, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will update the date above and tell you by email or in the dashboard before it takes effect. If you keep using the service after that, you accept the new terms.
